Police investigate video of warden stomping on student

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened its investigation into a case where a hostel warden allegedly stomped on a student after the latter was caught smoking.

The warden, supposedly attached to a vocational school in Sungai Buloh, is seen on video repeatedly scolding and kicking the student.

The video, said to have been recorded secretly by other students, subsequently went viral on social media.

Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force chairman Datuk R Sri Sanjeevan also shared the mobile video, titled "Warden Pijak Pelajar" on his social media page.

Selangor deputy police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar said a 16-year old boy lodged a polic report at 10.25am today at the Sungai Buloh police station.

"The incident happened last Wednesday at about 5.30pm, at Asrama Kasih, Kolej Vokasional Sungai Buloh.

"Police view this matter seriously. We have opened an investigation paper under the Section 323 of the Penal Code (for voluntarily causing hurt)," said Abdul Rahim, in a statement.

Sri Sanjeevan, in his posting, had urged the warden to refrain from being overwhelmed by emotion and anger when carrying out his duty.
