KUALA LUMPUR: Search's 35th anniversary concert will go on despite the band's dispute with drummer Yazit Ahmad.
"We want the show to go on, because we are doing it for our loyal fans. We will do our best to find a new collaborator to help organise it."
"The concert is our promise to fans, a thank you for the 35 wonderful years of great Malaysian music and great memories to cherish," said the legendary rock band's frontman Suhaimi Abdul Rahman or Amy.
He said this at a Press conference held at Plaza Damas here, today.
He also announced the termination of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the band and AF Jets, the company which was supposed to organise Search 35th anniversary concert, scheduled to take place on the eve of the nation's 59th independence celebration.
Search's concert, Search 35 Tahun will be held at Sepang International Circuit on Aug 30.
On the termination of the MoU, Amy alleged that AF Jets had caused a misunderstanding between members Amy, Nasir, Hamzah "Kid" Taib and Nordin Taib; and Yazit.
"We have decided to protect the Search brand which we painstakingly built together over the years," said Nasir.
Also at the Press conference were Kid, Nordin and their lawyer Yusmadi Yusof.
It was reported on May 14 that AF Jets chief executive officer Amrul Nizar Anuar said the show would be cancelled because of Search's dispute with Yazit.
Nasir said this was "an excuse to cover their weaknesses."
"They misled Yazit, made confusing statements and claimed we fired him," said Nasir.
"We want them to stop using our name to promote events, failing which we will take legal action."
Yazit lodged a police report against Amy's wife Norhasniza Hassan on May 4, alleging that his bandmates did not pay him for the concert and that Norhasniza had insulted him.
