Two friends burn to death as car catches fire in Malacca accident

MALACCA: A night out for four friends ended in tragedy when two of them burnt to death in an accident near Malim last night.

The accident took place along the Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin (AMJ) expressway at 8.30pm.

The four men, all in their 20s, were headed to Malim from the town centre in a Proton Iswara Aeroback.

The driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a road divider and lamp post before the car burst into flames.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver and the passenger at the front managed to escape.

However, their two friends in the back were unable to get out of the vehicle before the car was engulfed in flames.

Jalan Kubu Fire and Rescue station operations commander Baharudin Ismail said firemen took more than an hour to put out the blaze and extract the remains of the two from the vehicle.

As of 11.30pm, the identities of the two dead men are still unknown.

Their remains were sent to the Malacca Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
