KUALA LUMPUR: In case you're wondering, the answer is, no, a van did not explode in a ball of fire in the heart of KL on Monday.
Police on Tuesday dispelled rumours circulating on social media that a van had been detonated at Jalan Bunus on Monday.
City police chief Datuk Amar Singh today rubbished the claims, clarifying that short-circuit in the vehicle's electrical system of was the cause of the fire.
“The van driver, who had just driven to KL from Kedah, realised that smoke coming out of the engine so he pulled over. Shortly after, the vehicle caught fire and the whole van was burnt,” he said.
Amar had a word of warning for those who spread rumours without verifying the facts first.
"We view seriously the act of spreading news without checking on their authenticity.
"We will find out who spread these rumours. They can be charged under the Communications and Multimedia Act,” he said.
