RIO DE JANEIRO: Khairul Anuar Mohamad's Rio Olympics is over after the archer crashed out in the second round of the individual event on Wednesday.
Khairul, 25, lost to Germany's Florian Floto and it was a defeat which could have been a victory for the Malaysian as he won the first two sets for a 4-0 lead.
Floto, however, found his form in the remaining three sets to advance to the last-16 stage with a 6-4 triumph.
"It's not that I shot badly but the German's scoring was nearly perfect in the last three sets," said Khairul at the Sambodromo Range.
"I was quite confident after the first two sets and I believe my shooting was quite good in the last three sets but the German was on a different level."
A quarter-finalist in the 2012 London Games, Khairul won the first two sets 27-26 and 27-23.
Floto, however, roared back to take the next three sets 29-27, 28-25 and 30-29.
"It was not my day but I will continue training as I want to compete in the 2020 Games in Tokyo," said Khairul.
Khairul had beaten Colombia's Andres Pila 6-0 in the first round earlier on Wednesday.
Fellow archers Haziq Kamaruddin and Akmal Nor Hasrin will be in action later on Wednesday with
Akmal facing Spain’s Juan Rodriguez (Thursday, 2.13am Malaysia) while Haziq will square off against American Zach Garrett (Thursday, 3.18am).
In shooting, Johnathan Wong failed to qualify for the final of the men’s 50m pistol after finishing 37th in the preliminary round.
