SUBANG JAYA: The family of Chin Khoon Sing, who was killed when a crane hook fell on her car at Jalan Raja Chulan on Aug 25, has reached a settlement with the China construction company that operated the machine.
The agreement, which includes, among others, monetary assistance to the family, was reached during a meeting between the family and representatives of Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) last night.
A lawyer representing the family, Jason Ng Kau, who together with Khoon Sing's brother and mother held a press conference here earlier today, however declined to reveal the amount of monetary assistance extended to them by the construction company.
Ng cited the security of the family as one of the reasons why they declined to reveal the amount and types of other assistance agreed to with BUCG.
Ng said the settlement came after a series of meetings between the two parties since the incident, and that the family has agreed not to pursue any legal action against the construction company.
Khoon Sing's brother, Khoon Ying, 26, said the family just wants closure on the tragedy.
He said they agreed to settle the matter with BUCG as dragging the matter would only further depress their family.
"This incident has already passed, we also do not want to go on with the issue (any more).
"It will only depress us more. So we decided for closure," he told a press conference at a hotel, here.
During the 7.20pm incident, a crane hook, which was attached to a crane at a nearby construction site, is believed to have detached and fell onto Khoon Sing's Perodua Kelisa.
The victim, whose car was stationary in a traffic jam, was killed instantly.
It was reported that the hook weighed about a tonne.
