SHAH ALAM: Proton Holdings Bhd has launched the third generation Proton Saga today, reinvigorating a brand name that spearheaded the birth of the brand 31 years ago.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin unveiled the sedan at a ceremony in Setia City convention centre in Shah Alam today.
All variants of the new Saga come with the same four-cylinder VVT engine producing 94 horsepower and 120Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm.
Prices start from RM36,800 for the 1.3 Standard (MT) and RM39,800 for the 1.3 Standard (CVT).
Meanwhile the 1.3 Executive (CVT) is priced at RM42,800 and the 1.3 Premium (CVT) RM45,800.
The new Saga comes with two airbags, 420-litres of boot space, reflector halogen headlamps and Ecodrive Assist.
The manual version accelerates from 0-100 kph in 12.2 seconds, while the CVT accerates from 0-100 kph in 13.1 seconds.
Fuel economy for the manual version is 5.4 l/100 kms at 90 kph. For the CVT version, fuel economy is at 5.6 l/100 km at 90 kph.
Also present at the launch were Proton chairman Datuk Seri Syed Faizal Albar and Proton chief executive Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Kenali and Datuk Md Radzaif Mohamed, Proton’s deputy chief executive officer.
Ahmad Fuaad said about two million Proton Sagas had been sold around the world since the model name was introduced in 1985.
"The Saga is and continues to be the most affordable four door sedan," he said.
The car is available in six colours, namely white, silver, black, red as well as two new colours which are blue and grey.
