PM Najib invites Xi to visit Malaysia

BEIJING, China: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said he has invited China President Xi Jinping to visit Malaysia again.

Xi’s last visit to Malaysia was in 2013.

“I suggested it would be apt for both of us to officiate the opening of Xiamen University’s branch campus in Malaysia at the appropriate time,” Najib told a press conference with Malaysian media here tonight.

He said Xi agreed to the idea, and further discussions will be held between officials to arrange the visit.

Xiamen University is the first state-owned Chinese university to open a branch campus overseas, and Malaysia was chosen as the host country.

Najib said this was symbolic of the strong relations between Malaysia and China.

The medium of instruction for Xiamen University will be English, with the exception of traditional Chinese medicine.

As at today, Xiamen University Malaysia branch has 1,320 students and a third of them are from China.
