KUALA KUBU BARU: Mohd Fareez Hanuddin, the only victim in the early morning landslide incident in Serendah, said he was lucky to have come out alive with only a sprained wrist and ankle.
In the 1am incident, the 21-year-old gym assistant was riding home from his workplace in Selayang when he fell into a sinkhole created by the landslide at Jalan Melati.
His home was just a few metres away from the scene.
"The road was dark. Usually, the stretch was well-lighted but at the time, I thought there was a blackout in the area.
"I didn't realise there was a sinkhole in front of me. I fell into the hole and my bike landed on top of me.
"I can feel the water flowing fast, and the soil pouring on my head. At that moment, I really thought I was going to be buried alive there," he said.
Luckily, Fareez said three of his neighbours who saw him plunged into the hole ran over and managed to pull him out of the mud. Sustaining bodily injuries, he was sent to the Selayang Hospital for treatment.
Seven cars, two motorcycles - including Fareez's, and several roadside stalls were buried in the landslide.
