MT Orkim Harmony suspects arrive in Malaysia, to be charged today

KULAI: The eight suspects involved in the sea robbery of Malaysian tanker MT Orkim Harmony last year arrived in Malaysia today to face charges after being extradited from Vietnam.

The suspects, aged between 21 and 63, were flown in via special chartered flight from Vietnam by a team from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), led by its director-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Puzi Ab Kahar.

The flight departed from Hanoi at 1.30am local time and arrived at the Senai International Airport at 6.14am.

Puzi said 40 MMEA personnel, including members of its elite Special Task and Rescue (STAR) team, were involved in the operation to bring the suspects to Malaysia.

"The suspects, all Indonesians, will be charged at the Kota Tinggi Magistrate's court this morning," said Puzi.

The suspects were arrested by Vietnamese authorities at Tho Chu Island on June 18, 2015 after escaping using Orkim Harmony's rescue boat.
