SINGAPORE: A silver Mercedes Benz left a trail of destruction when it ploughed against rush hour traffic, killing one and injuring several others in a horror crash along the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) before Tuas West Road this morning.
Today Online (http://bit.ly/2gRpHiG) reported that the incident occurred at 8.02am, involving four cars, one motorcycle and one bus.
A shocking dashboard camera footage has emerged, showing parts of the accident. The Mercedes, travelling against traffic flow, is seen crashing into a motorcycle, which was carrying two people.
The motorcycle’s pillion rider was flung into the air, landing heavily on the road.
The Mercedes is also believed to have crashed into a Toyota Vios. The driver of the Vios, a 37-year-old man, died at the scene. He had to be extricated from the driver’s seat by Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel.
His passenger was rushed to the National University Hospital.
The motorcyclist and pillion rider were also sent to the hospital.
The driver of the Mercedes, a 53-year-old man, has been arrested.
Today Online reported that the man was driving the left lane of the AYE and had made a U-turn to the extreme right lane. His son, in his 20s, was in the car with him when the accident occurred.
Police investigations are ongoing.
