Seven cops among eight syndicate members nabbed in Kedah major drug bust

ALOR STAR: The Bukit Aman Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting) scored the biggest haul in Kedah this year with the seizure of RM6.7 million worth of drugs in a two-day raid at five locations in the state and Kuala Lumpur.

However, the success was marred by the fact seven out of the eight drug trafficking syndicate members are policemen, including an Assistant Superintendent (ASP) attached to the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigations Department.

Kedah police chief Datuk Asri Yusoff today confirmed that the ASP was among the four policemen rounded up by Sting in Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur while the three policemen were attached to the state police contingent.

It is learnt that three other policemen were attached with the National Border Security Agency (Aksem) based in Bukit Kayu Hitam.

The eighth person is a civilian picked up in Changlun here.

"The drug seized during the operations are 75kg of syabu worth RM5.25 million, 7.4 milion of heroin base worth RM740,000.

"Also seized are 4,040 yaba pills worth RM80,800 and 70gm of compressed ganja worth RM150 which brings the total drug haul to RM6.7 million," he told a press conference at the state police headquarters here today.

Asri said police seized cash and vehicles with total value of RM791,000 comprising cash in five currencies and six cars and a Ducati Monster motorcycle during the raids.
