SHAH ALAM: The Selangor NGOs Coalition has lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) urging an investigation to be carried out on the alleged extraordinary wealth of an officer to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
Four pages of document containing evidence with five attachments were handed over to Selangor MACC by the coalition’s legal advisor Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin at Wisma PKPS today.
Imran said the supposed display of extraordinary wealth by Muhammad Hilman Idham, the special officer of Azmin, as well as a friend implicated in the report had raised suspicion.
Pictures of Hilman wearing a luxury branded watch said to be worth RM87,000, which went viral on social media had prompted Imran and the coalition to make the report.
“Our investigations on social media showed that Hilman and his friend are living lavishly and we believe he (Hilman) boasts wealth beyond reasonable means.
“Based on pictures that went viral on social media, we see that Hilman and his friend (both) own high-end watches and cars, luxury homes and (they) had even showed off a substantial amount of cash in a bag.
“Their lifestyle is questionable and it does not seem to match the salary of Hilman, who is a civil servant. An investigation should be launched into the source of wealth and how it was obtained.
“We want to know if Hilman had abused his position or even that of the Selangor Menteri Besar that has led to his luxurious lifestyle. There could be elements of graft because logically, he would not be able to afford these luxuries and we want this to be investigated,” said Imran.
Imran was speaking to reporters before handing over the evidence, which also contained pictures as well as several copies of Companies Commission of Malaysia registration documents to MACC.
He was accompanied by more than 20 members of the coalition.
Imran also called on Hilman to declare his assets as a civil servant in the name of good governance and transparency championed by the PKR-led Selangor state government.
