PASIR GUDANG: A three-month supply of ganja at an estimated value of RM180,000 was found in a house rented by a couple here, last Sunday.
The husband and wife are believed to have been in the business of supplying drugs for the last two years.
However, their clandestine operation was discovered when a team from the Seri Alam police station raided the premise on Sunday at 11pm.
Seri Alam district police chief Superintendent Jokhiri Abd Aziz said police found 72 packs of ganja weighing 73.7g in the bedroom of the couple, both aged 41.
Jokhiri told a press conference here today that the drugs, kept inside a black plastic, were found on the bedroom floor.
“It is believed the ganja was for supply around Seri Alam, Johor Baru and Kota Tinggi, which can cater to 36,831 drug abusers in three months,” Jokhiri said.
A Proton Inspira and a Perodua Viva were seized along with RM150 cash during the raid.
Jokhiri said the male suspect had two previous convictions for violent crimes under Section 7 (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (special preventive measures) 1985-2003 and Section (a)(1) of the same act.
He added that police were acting on a public tip-off.
“The male suspect also tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said, adding that the couple have been remanded until Monday (Feb 27) to facilitate investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence.
