PUTRAJAYA: The performance of candidates in 2016 Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) exam, in general, was better than 2015, said Malaysian Examination Council (MEC) today.
Its chairman Professor Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak today said this was reflective in the National Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) which has increased from 2.65 to 2.71.
He said students who scored a CGPA of 4.0 or four flat also increased by 0.51 percent, from 335 candidates in 2015 to 565 candidates in 2016.
A total of 42,456 candidates or 98.41 per cent scored a pass in at least one subject in the exam compared to 40,995 (97.64 per cent) in 2015.
"A total of 31,079 or 71.8 per cent of candidates scored a full pass in four or five subjects in last year's STPM, compared to 29,028 in 2015 or 69.1 percent."
"Students who scored a CGPA of 3.5 and above had increased by 2.98 per cent from 6,137 to 4,711 candidates, while for 3.0 and above recorded an increase of 3.65 per cent, from 14,263 to 16,263 candidates.
"The same increase was also recorded for those who scored 2.75 and above, from 20,359 candidates in 2015 to 22,407 candidates in 2016," he said in the 2016 STPM results announcement, here, today.
Dr Mohamed said the percentage of those who passed four or five subjects have also increased by 0.52 percent compared to 2015.
"A total of 11 candidates scored five A's nationwide.
"Candidates who took five subjects but scored four A's has increased from 27 in 2015 to 47 in 2016.
"This gives a clear picture that the STPM 2016 performance has significantly improved," he said.
STPM 2016 recorded 37,033 candidates from Social Science field and 6,202 from Science field.
A total of 419 Social Science students and 146 Science students obtained CGPA of 4.0.
The STPM results were released nationwide at 12pm, today.
