Pastor Raymond abduction: Please shut up, let us do our job, says IGP

GEORGE TOWN: Police have warned the public against spreading unverified rumours about the abduction of Pastor Raymond Goh.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the candlelight vigils and mass media coverage was only making it difficult for police to locate Goh.

“You are only putting the life of the pastor in danger. We have cases where kidnappers will hold on to the victim for months, and will only respond when they think it is safe to respond.

“I would like to urge everyone to allow us to do our work and not put his life in danger. I should say, please shut up!,” he told reporters here today.

Asked on claims that “special forces” had abducted Koh “professionally”, Khalid said the professionalism of those involved in the abduction was nothing new.

“Did you see the murder of Geng Satu Hati? You see how organised they are, they have TV shows and movies to show them how high tech they can go,” he said.

He said police were pursuing three angles in the investigation, including personal issues, the involvement of extremist groups and kidnapping for ransom.
