KUCHING: Puan Sri Jamilah Anu, the wife of the late Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem, was officially sworn in as the Tanjong Datu assemblyman this morning.
Jamilah, 62, took the oath of office before the Sarawak Legislative Assembly speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar at the assembly complex here at 11am.
Witnessing the swearing-in ceremony were Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Abang Openg, who was accompanied by his wife.
Also present were the Deputy Chief Ministers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Tan Sri James Jemut Masing and state cabinet ministers.
In the last Tanjong Datu state seat by-election on Feb 18, Jamilah, who was the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate won a majority of 6,443 votes against two of her contenders, Johnny Aput from State Reform Party (Star) and Rapelson Richard Hamit from Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB).
The Tanjong Datu state seat by-election was held following the death of Adenan due to heart complication on Jan 11.
