Sabah mudslide: Fifth body found

KINABATANGAN: The search and rescue (SAR) team combing for seven missing family members after a mudslide swept away their home in Tongod, Kinabatangan, has recovered the fifth body.

Fire and Rescue department deputy director (operation) Khairul Azuwan Ibrahim said the body of a female teenager was found at 1.41pm.

He said in a statement that the team is still looking for three more missing victims.

In the incident on Friday, a family of 11 was swept into Sungai Lobou after a mudslide slammed into their home at an oil palm estate. Zalikah Malingkat and her husband, Abdul Kamalayan, both 50, and two of their children survived, while the couple's seven other children, aged between 8 and 17, were carried away.

The mission, now in its fourth day, saw the SAR team conducting their search at two villages in the vicinity.

Two bodies were found by villagers at Kampung Masaum yesterday, another one at Kampung Mangkawago and a child’s body was discovered at Kampung Pasik this morning.
