LDP baffled by Kit Siang's refusal to head Pakatan Harapan

KOTA KINABALU: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is puzzled as to why DAP advisor, Lim Kit Siang, is shying away from taking the helm of Pakatan Harapan.

In a statement, LDP president, Datuk Teo Chee Kang, said DAP is undoubtedly the strongest opposition party, with 38 Parliamentary and 96 State seats.

“By convention, its leader, Lim Kit Siang, should be the opposition leader in Parliament.

"It is obvious that he is playing the leading role – not only in taking the front bench in the (Dewan) – but also in running Pakatan Harapan as a whole,” he said.

Teo, who is Sabah Special Tasks Minister, said this when asked to comment on Wanita Umno chief, Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil’s remarks that PKR president, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, should step down as opposition leader and allow Lim to take over the Pakatan Harapan leadership.

“I am puzzled as to why he is shying away from the position of opposition leader. Constitutionally, he is even qualified to be the prime minister,” Teo added.

Earlier today, Lim said he harbours no intention of becoming the country’s premier, stressing that the idea of becoming Malaysia’s leader has never crossed his mind.
