GEORGE TOWN: Police have revealed that the five arrested in connection with the assault of coma victim T. Nhaveen and his friend T. Previin, were previously involved in another case – assaulting and extorting another teenager – last month.
Northeast District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Omar said that the 19year-old victim lodged a report on the incident which took place in May, but later retracted the report.
It was learnt that the earlier incident took place at a convenience store in Gelugor where the victim was working as a cashier.
"Checks found that the victim lodged a report but three hours later he withdrew it as he did not want to prolong the issue.
"He has now appeared and requested for the police to investigate the case. So we have detained the two who was released after their remand expired yesterday," Anuar said in a statement today.
He, however, did not elaborate further on the details of the case.
Police have since obtained a one-day remand order on the two, aged 16 and 17.
The remand order for the remaining three on the case involving Nhaveen and Previin will expire tomorrow.
Anuar said that the trio will be rearrested to facilitate with the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting and Section 385 for putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion.
