SUNGAI PETANI: Four men detained in connection with a Molotov cocktail attack on the Kuala Muda district police headquarters last Saturday have been released on police bail.
Kuala Muda deputy police chief Superintendent Saifi Abd Hamid said the men were released this morning pending further investigation.
However, he declined to elaborate on the release, as the investigation is ongoing.
In the 3.30am incident on Saturday, a policeman manning the guard house of the police headquarters spotted two men outside the premises, but they jumped onto a motorcycle and sped off before he could confront them.
While fleeing, one of the men hurled a Molotov cocktail towards the entrance, causing a fire which left burnt marks on the entrance wall.
The duo left behind a banner bearing the number “04” and the word “Nazi”, in an apparent warning to halt the police’s ongoing crackdown against the Kedah underworld.
Claims were also made that the police were unfairly targeting Indians in the crackdown, which was dismissed by Kedah police chief Datuk Asri Yusoff who said that the focus was on triad organisations, in particular, Gang 35.
He explained that it just so happened that a majority of the triad members were Indians.
Following the attack, police picked up four men, aged between 26 and 41, at separate locations in Sungai Petani on Sunday to facilitate investigations.
