More arrests likely in Customs Officer's and secret society nexus case

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have not ruled out the possibility that more suspects will be picked-up, following the recent arrest of six Customs officers alleged link with a feared secret society to smuggle drugs into the country.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the suspects are likely to be picked-up based on the latest development involving the case.

"We do not deny that more arrests will be made based on current investigations.

"We will see how," he said after launching Sambutan Hari Hijau PDRM 2017 at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol), here, today.

Noor Rashid said the arrest was made following a period of lengthy intelligence gathering and investigation into the case.

"We carried out the arrests based on investigations of this group.

"They were involved in bringing drugs into the country,” he said.

He said investigations have thus far revealed that a number of Customs officer’s had been aiding and assisting the underworld group to smuggle drugs into the country via the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

"The involvement of the Customs officers made it easier for the smuggling activity," he said.

It was reported on Tuesday that the six suspects, in their 30s and 50s, were nabbed at KLIA by the Federal Police’s Criminal Investigations Department team in an operation at about 2pm.

The six were believed to have been in cahoots with " Gang 360 Devan", notorious for its involvement in drug processing, trafficking and other illegal activities.

Reports stated that the detained comprised a customs superintendent while the rest were assistant superintendents, stationed at the airport's baggage scanning unit, export unit, passenger clearance unit and the customs mail and courier unit.

Federal police CID director Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh had confirmed the arrests.

He had said that they were investigating to ascertain how long this had been going on and the extent of their involvement with the gang.
