SHAH ALAM: Two online gambling outlets in Taman Seri Muda were raided by the Shah Alam district police today as part of continuous efforts to end such activities.
Raids on the two premises were led by Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafien Mamat who was assisted by 15 officers and personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department as well as a team of 10 from the Shah Alam City Council enforcement unit.
However, the raiding team found both premises, believed to have been operating for more than six months, empty and all equipment used in the online gambling operations carted away.
The raiding team took close to 10 minutes to break down reinforced steel doors at both premises.
Both premises were still equipped with closed circuit television cameras as well as internet connection that offered access to online gambling sites such as Rollex88, Newtown and 12Win.
One had a hidden escape route which also functioned as a back entry into the premise and bore a 'Buka 24-jam' signage.
A total of 14 laptops, 2 parangs and 3 modems were confiscated from the raids.
Shafien said the ongoing operations on online gambling outlets came following the order from the Inspector-General of Police to wipe out such activities.
"We will liaise with the relevant authorities such as Syabas and TNB to cut off electricity and water supplies to ensure that the outlets will not be able to operate again. We will also write in to the Shah Alam City Council to ask that the owners of the premises be fined for allowing these illegal activities to be carried out in their properties," he said.
