Man sets fire to co-worker's car, assaults boss' son after delay in salary payment

SIBU: A man set fire to his colleague’s car and assaulted his employer’s son after being informed that there was a delay in he payment of his salary.

District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Zailanni Amit said the incident took place at a construction site at Jalan Aman here about 3.50pm.

“The man and other colleagues had gathered at the site to collect their salary this afternoon, but they were told that they would not receive their payment today,” he said.

Although the employer’s son, 24, a project manager, explained the situation, he refused to listen and kept demanding his salary.

Zailanni said a colleague and his wife tried to calm the suspect but he turned aggressive and attacked the colleague aged 35 and his 47-year-old wife.

“The suspect, in his 30s, also assaulted the project manager and set fire on his colleague’s Perodua Kancil before fleeing from the scene,” said Zailanni.

Three victims suffered minor injuries.

“We are locating the suspect and will make an arrest soon,” he added.

The case was being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code (voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons or means) and Section 435 of the Penal Code for causing mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage.
