Shock as woman's head found in Batang Lupar river

SRI AMAN: The severed head of a woman found on the banks of Batang Lupar river has created shock among residents in Skait area today.

Villagers in the area, who happened to be walking nearby, spotted the decomposed head at 4.30pm.

Police said the head belonged to a woman in her 20s and has been in the area for about 24 hours.

Investigators combed the surrounding area but found no other body parts.

A police spokesman said initially, the villagers thought they had stumbled on the body of a woman stuck in a mud but upon closer inspection were surprised when they only saw a head.

"They contacted the Sri Aman police and a team from the Criminal Investigations Department was sent to the area to check on the matter," he said.

He said police were hoping that the post mortem at the Sri Aman Hospital would determine if the woman was a victim of a crime.

Meanwhile, Sri Aman police chief Deputy Superintendent Othman Sulaiman confirmed the case.

He said police for now, have classified the case as sudden death and were awaiting the post mortem results before taking further action.

"Residents with a missing family members should contact the nearest police station to help with the identification process and investigation of the case.
