Puchong trio nabbed for armed robbery, police impersonation

SERDANG: Three men were nabbed just three hours after they robbed a group of foreign construction workers at Damai Utama, Puchong on Tuesday.

The armed thieves, in their 30s, had impersonated policemen and “raided” the victims’ quarters here, before carting off money and personal effects.

The victims – six Bangladeshis in their 20s and 30s – were resting at their quarters when the incident occurred.

“The men, each armed with a parang, sickle and hockey stick, introduced themselves as policemen before entering the house.

“The trio then rummaged through the quarters and took possession of RM1,420 in cash, passports, and five mobile phones, before fleeing on motorcycles,” Serdang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ismadi Borhan said when contacted today.

He said police acted on information obtained from the victims to detect the suspects, who were nabbed in separate raids in the district beginning 4am.

“During the arrests, police managed to retrieve the victims’ mobile phones.

“The suspects were later brought to the Serdang district police headquarters to facilitate an investigation under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and armed robbery; and Section 170 of the same Act for impersonating a public servant,” Ismadi added.
