SEREMBAN: A police corporal was remanded for six days starting today for allegedly soliciting and receiving bribes totalling RM4,000 from a man who had stolen goats.
The remand order was issued by Remand Special Court assistant registrar, Mas Azmimin Ahmad following an application by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigation officer, Riduan Kadri to facilitate investigations under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009.
Handcuffed and clad in MACC lock-up attire, the suspect, who was arrested at 1pm at MACC’s lock-up here yesterday, arrived at the court at 9.55am.
He was represented by the government’s Legal Aid Foundation.
A state MACC spokesman said the suspect, who is attached to the Sungai Kelamah Gemas police booth, was believed to have demanded a bribe from a 36-year-old shepherd and farmer, for allegedly being involved in the theft of goats.
“Investigations found that the suspect had asked for and received money twice totalling RM4,000 from the man in return for not taking action against him,” he said.
