SHAH ALAM: Four foreigners who participated in the Geek Summit which was held at a convention centre here were detained in an operation carried out by the Selangor Immigration Department yesterday.
Its director Mohamad Shukri Nawi said 13 individuals who participated in the events were inspected during the operation.
He said the operation was aimed at the organisers of international costume play or cosplay (where participants dress up to be a fictional character) events which did not obtain prior approval from the Central Agency for Application of Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes (Puspal).
“The operation was held at about 3pm after we received information about the event, yesterday.
“All those detained were taken to the Selangor Immigration Department Enforcement Division’s Office for further investigation,” he said in a statement today.
He said the four detained foreigners were three Japanese women and a Spanish man, aged between 28 and 41.
He added that all detainees were investigated under Regulation 39 (b) for breach of the terms of the Immigration Act 1963 for performing in public using a social visit pass. – Bernama
