KUALA LUMPUR: A motorcyclist was killed when his vehicle collided with a car driven by a man under the influence of alcohol along the Sultan Iskandar Highway (Lebuhraya Mahameru) here, early today.
The victim was identified as Mohamed Zaili Mohamed, 44, who died at the scene from severe head injuries, Bernama reported.
Zaili, a contract worker, was en route home to Bukit Antarabangsa, Ampang after sending food to his wife to be sold when the accident occurred at 1.30am.
After being rammed by the car, Zaili was thrown to the road shoulder – but his motorcycle was caught under the vehicle and was dragged for about two kilometres from the crash site.
The driver – a car accessories shop worker – only brought his vehicle to a stop when members of the public intervened.
"The suspect stopped his car under the Titiwangsa Light Rail Transit Station," said Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkefly Yahya.
The man was taken to the Jalan Tun H S Lee Traffic police station, and screening tests found his breath to be positive for alcohol content.
The case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
