Cop beaten in Sri Rampai for unintentionally cutting queue

KUALA LUMPUR: A policeman was beaten by a some men following a misunderstanding at a petrol station in Sri Rampai, here, on Thursday.

In the 10.20am incident, the victim, in his 20s, sustained an injury to his left eyebrow.

At the time, he was on duty in Ops Rentas Khas when his motorcycle ran low on fuel.

Wangsa Maju deputy police chief Deputy Supt Ahmad Osman said the victim stopped at a petrol station to refuel.

When he manouvred his bike into one of the pump lanes, he did not realise there was a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) waiting in line.

"Because of that, the driver of the MPV was not happy and this led to a verbal argument with the victim," he said when contacted yesterday.

The verbal altercation led to several of the MPV driver's friends who were in the vehicle advancing on the policeman.

The occupants of a nearby Mercedes Benz also joined in.

"The victim was hit by two men from the group before others in the group broke up the fight.

"The victim was taken to a nearby clinic where he received five stitches to his left eyebrow," he said.

Based on information, police arrested 10 men aged between 22 and 44 around Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru.

They were all remanded for two days to assist in investigation under Section 147 of the Penal Code.
