TEMERLOH: Police have arrested a man in Subang Jaya, Selangor yesterday after he hijacked a car while the owner was busy fueling up at a petrol station in Mentakab, Pahang.
Temerloh police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Yusri Othman said the 27-year-old suspect was nabbed by a police team in Subang Jaya at 1pm. The team also recovered the stolen vehicle.
He said checks showed the suspect has past records of drug and criminal offences.
He has been transfered to the Temerloh police station for investigations under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
Yusri said the 8am incident occurred at Sri Semantan petrol station in Mentakab. The victim, a woman, was filling up petrol into her Toyota Corolla and did not turned off the engine.
"The suspect took this opportunity to sneak into the driver's seat and sped-off towards Jerantut.
"A closed-circuit television footage obtained from the petrol station revealed that the suspect had arrived in another vehicle.
"He parked the vehicle at the back of the petrol station before casually walking towards the victim's car. He entered the car and just drove away," he said today.
Yusri said the 20-year-old victim noticed someone entering her car and tried to chase him but slipped and fell to the ground.
A video footage of the suspect stealing the car and the victim chasing the car had gone viral on the social media yesterday.
