KANGAR: A single mother of seven children was fined RM4,000 by the Magistrate's court here for prostitution.
The 37-year-old woman pleaded guilty before Magistrate Kamaliza Md Zain who also ordered her to serve eight months in prison if she failed to pay the fine.
She was taken to the Perlis Correctional Centre.
According to the charge sheet, the woman who worked as a masseuse had allegedly offered sex for the purpose of prostitution at a house in Taman Jaya Diri, Behor Temak on Oct 16 at 11.20pm.
The accused was charged under Section 372B of the Penal Code which upon conviction is punishable with a maximum one year imprisonment, or a fine, or both.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Jodia Por Yi Tying prosecuted, while the woman was represented by two National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) lawyers, Wan Nursyaheedah Wan Najmi and Nur Diyana Ab Shukor.
Wan Nursyaheedah, in mitigation, asked the court to consider the woman's status as the sole breadwinner of seven children, aged between three and 17.
