'Nicky Gang' busted, Datuk Seri Nicky still missing

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have arrested 68 individuals including those with Datuk and Datuk Seri titles believed to be close associates to wanted man Datuk Seri Nicky Liow Soon Hee.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said the individuals belonged to the "Nicky Gang" and are believed to have ties with the 33-year-old businessman, suspected to be involved in various offences including money laundering.

A series of operations were carried out from March 20 to March 28, known as Ops Pelican 3.0, by the Johor Police Commercial Criminal Investigation Department (JSJK), Johor Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) and General Operations Force's (PGA) 4th Battalion.

"A total of 70 raids were held in the Klang Valley, with 118 individuals inspected and 68 arrested with RM770,000 in cash seized.

"We also seized 16 luxury vehicles worth RM6.67 million and foreign currencies worth more than RM7 million, as well as a glock pistol and 40 bullets.

"The police also froze 41 bank accounts worth more than RM4 million and seized 35 vehicles worth RM8.86 million, from 21 individuals and 16 entities including the World Winner Emperor Foundation (Yayasan Winner Emperor Sedunia) and Nicky Liow Integrity Organisation Malaysia," he said at a special press conference in Bukit Aman here today.

Abdul Hamid also said eight individuals with the titles Datuk Seri (two men) and Datuk (five men and one woman) were arrested.

He said two men identified as Liow's brothers with Datuk and Datuk Seri titles, aged 28 and 30 respectively, were found to have previous criminal records involving drugs and assault cases.

"Out of the 118 investigated, 48 individuals were arrested under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma), with 12 others arrested under the Immigration Act.

"Eight local men tested positive for drugs and were arrested, while 50 others released," he said.

Abdul Hamid said Liow is still believed to be in the Klang Valley and was last seen in Setiawalk, Puchong, Selangor.

Liow was suspected to have fled a week before Ops Pelican 3.0. He has 12 criminal records involving drugs and assault cases, including a case involving two Rela members at the Kou Ong Yah temple in Kuala Lumpur four years ago. He was later acquitted and discharged.

Those with information on Liow can contact investigating officer Assistant Superintendent V Prakash at 012-5209767 or any nearby police stations.

Also at the press conference was Johor police chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
