SANDAKAN: A former People's Volunteer Corps member (Rela) claimed trial to bribery and misappropriation of Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) allowances worth RM9,542.40.
Labib Hanif Ali, 30, pleaded not guilty to the two charges against him before Judge Abu Bakar Manat.
For the first charge, Labib denied giving RM1,622.40 to Georgina Tanggok who is an assistant accountant on July 10, 2018 at the Headquarters of the Malaysian State Volunteer Department at the Sabah Federal Administrative Complex.
It was for the purpose of deceiving Sabah State Rela deputy director, Henra Reman with false details on the Attendance Confirmation List dated June 4, 2018 to July 1, 2018 when in fact he was not present for duty at that time.
The offence is read under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 and punishable under Section 24 (2) of the same Act.
If convicted, it provides for imprisonment not exceeding 20 years and a fine not less than five times the amount or value of false valuables or money, or RM10,000 whichever is higher.
For the second charge, Labib is accused of misusing RM7,920 which is surplus money for control assignment allowance claims in Esszone for June.
The offence was committed in July 2018 at the Rela Community Service Centre in Kampung Batu Putih, Sandakan.
The offence is read under Section 403 of the Penal Code (Act 574) which provides for imprisonment for a term of not less than six months and not more than five years with whipping and fine.
The court set Jan 13, 2022 for re-mention of the case and allowed Labib a bail of RM10,000 with RM4,000 deposited as well as a local surety.
Prosecution was conducted by MACC Prosecuting Officer Rekhraj Singh while Labib was unrepresented.
