KOTA KINABALU: A pedestrian died in a hit-and-run incident along Jalan Tun Razak, near Sinsuran, here.
The victim Muhamad Azmi Atan, 41, was confirmed dead at the scene of the 1.20am incident after suffering severe head injuries.
District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said, the victim was found bloodied on the road by a motorcyclist.
He said, based on preliminary investigations, the victim, believed to be a pedestrian, was suspected to have been hit by a vehicle of unknown type and registration number.
"An examination of the victim's body found that there were severe injuries on the head, possibly due to the impact of hitting a hard object.
"Police also detected tyre marks on the road in the left lane, suspected to be caused by heavy braking," he said in a media statement, today.
Mohd Zaidi said the investigation is still continuing to locate the vehicle involved.
"Those with information regarding this case are requested to contact the investigating officer of the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters, Inspector Muhammad Amirul Azri Zainal.
"The case is being investigated according to Section 41(1) Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death due to reckless or dangerous driving," he said.
