KUALA LUMPUR: Police detained a husband-and-wife duo suspected of being involved in the bomb blast incident at Pandan Indah, Ampang Jaya last Thursday.
Acting Selangor Police Chief Datuk S. Sasikala Devi said the couple, aged 33 and 30 were arrested at 7.30pm yesterday at a housing estate in Serdang, Kedah and were immediately brought to Ampang Jaya District Police Headquarter.
"The two individuals have been remanded for seven days starting today until next Tuesday.
"The police believe this arrest will help the investigation" she said in a statement.
Sasikala said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
She advised the public not to make any statements related to the case.
In the 8.50pm incident, a chef was killed when a package placed on his car which was parked in front of a restaurant in Pandan Indah exploded.
The 28-year old victim had wanted to move the package after being told by a colleague about it.
Sources said jealousy is believed to be the motive behind the fatal incident.
The couple were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department, Ampang Jaya District Police Headquarters (IPD), where they have since were taken for investigation and further action.
Police believe that the explosion was caused by a homemade bomb following the discovery of certain objects at the scene of the incident.
Among the materials found are power bank devices, pieces of paper cutters and batteries.
Police also did not rule out the possibility that there were other materials used to create the bomb, but it may have been disintegrated during the explosion.
Authorities suspect that explosive-making skills were learned through social media.
