KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested 314 individuals from 2018 to 2022 for corruption cases in the state.
Selangor MACC director, Datuk Alias Salim said from the number, 135 people had been charged in court and 269 investigation papers opened.
The commission opened the highest number of investigation papers in 2020 (64) followed by 2019 (57) and 2022 (50).
"The year 2022 recorded the highest number of arrests (72 ) followed by 2018 (66) and 2021 (63).
"Civil servants were the highest group detained by the Selangor MACC with a total of 170 people followed by 84 arrests of private workers, 50 civilians, five politicians and five people from government-linked companies (GLCs)," he said in a statement.
Alias said Selangor MACC also recorded seizures amounting to RM366,845, adding that they had also stripped ownership of RM1,768,554.89.
Within the same period, Selangor MACC, he said, received 1,764 tip-offs related to corruption offences, misconduct and abuse of power.
In 2018, a total of 378 pieces of information were received, followed by 2019 (344
information) and 2022 (331 information).
Alias said apart from conducting investigations related to corruption cases in Selangor, they had also examined certain systems and procedures to identify weaknesses which opened up opportunities for corruption.
"Throughout the year 2018 to 2022, a total of 406 lectures specifically for target groups with 721 programmes on corruption prevention were conducted to government and private agencies, government-linked companies, non-governmental organisations, students of higher education institutions and schools," he said.
