KUALA KUBU BARU: The magistrate's court here ordered actor Hafidz Roshdi to undergo psychiatrict evaluation and treatement at Bahagia Hospital in Tanjung Rambutan on March 28.
Judge Siti Fatimah Talib, acting as magistrate, made the order after an application was made by deputy public prosecutor Nurul Qistini Qamarul Abrar under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
This was after Hafidz claimed trial to assaulting his wife, Nurul Shuhada Mat Shukri, 29, on March 2.
"The accused is ordered not to harass or contact the victim and must hand over his passport to the court until this case is completed. The accused is allowed bail of RM4,000 with one surety," said Siti Fatimah, who set June 9 for re-mention as well as for the medical and psychiatric evaluation reports on the accused to be handed over.
Hafidz was accused of hitting Nurul Shuhada thrice on the face near the Sungai Buaya toll plaza at 3.22am on March 2, causing injuries on her left cheek.
The charge was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail sentence of a year or a fine of RM2,000, or both, read together with Section 326A of the same, which carries a maximum sentence of double the earlier section.
Nurul Qistina had offered bail of RM10,000, asking that his bailor should be ordered to ensure that Hafidz receive psychiatric evaluation and treatment and that the accused be ordered not to contact the victim whether personally or through a representative.
Counsel Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader, who represented Hafidz, asked the court to set bail at less than RM5,000 as the 29-year-old accused needed to fend for two children.
He also said his client had lost several contracts when production houses retracted them after the alleged assault.
Akberdi also claimed his client was bipolar.
After proceedings, while being taken by court officials to be bailed, refused to answer questions from reporters.
The actor, whose credits mostly include television series and telemovies, was arrested on March 4 about noon when he turned up at the Selangor police headquarters in Shah Alam to have his statement recorded.
Nurul Shuhada was reported to have had to receive 10 stitches to her face following the alleged assault and will likely carry a permanent scar.
