Police detain trio in viral video showing men forcing Perodua Axia driver out of vehicle [NSTTV]

BUTTERWORTH: Police have detained three men in connection to a viral video showing a group of men pulling a man out off his Perodua Axia.

The incident happened at the traffic lights at Jalan Bagan Lalang here on Wednesday morning.

The trio, aged between 27 and 49, were nabbed in Butterworth, Seberang Jaya, and Kuala Kangsar.

The minute-long video was initially thought to be a gang robbery case.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Asri Shafie, however, said investigation revealed the victim's 57-year-old mother had taken a RM100,000 loan back in 2020.

He said the woman had in a written agreement, agreed to surrender the car, which was shown in the video, to her creditor if she failed to pay up.

"Since the woman failed to settle the loan, the car was seized as shown in the video.

"The man who was pulled out of the vehicle was the woman's son," he said.

Elaborating, Asri said when the woman failed to settle her debt, the creditor had engaged some people to seize the car.

"So far, we have detained three men.

"The case was initially classified under Section 395 of the Penal Code for robbery," he added.

In the minute-long video, a group of men were seen pulling out the Perodua Axia driver from his car before one of them got behind the wheel.

The victim was heard shouting for help.

When a motorist asked the victim what happened, he told him that they had stolen his car.

A group of motorists were then seen pursuing the getaway car, which grazed into a cyclist.
