SHAH ALAM: Itvision Consulting Sdn Bhd technical director has been charged with corruption at the Sessions Court here, this morning.

Chandrasekar Vellakutty, 48, was accused of submitting an invoice containing false details with the intention to deceive Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJKT) Tun Sambanthan's headmaster on Aug 27, 2020.

He was accused of submitting an invoice totaling RM83,335 for minor maintenance and upgrades to the school's building as well as electrical wiring work, which cost a total of RM15,340. However, the maintenance, upgrading and electrical wiring work at the school was never carried out.

His charge was framed under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, punishable under Section 24(2) of the same Act which carries maximum of 20 years in jail and a fine of not less than RM10,000 or five times the amount of the bribe, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

Chandrasekar pleaded not guilty to the charge before Judge Datuk Anita Harun this morning.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Aliff Shaharuzaman suggested for the court to order RM10,000 bail on the accused.

Mohd Aliff also made two other suggestions, that is for the court to order the accused to surrender his passport and to report himself to MACC Selangor office every first week of the month.

However, lawyer Gurdip Singh Bhatt who appeared for Chandrasekar pleaded for the court to consider ordering RM5,000 bail on the accused on account that the accused is a father of three, and that his wife is not working.

He also suggested for the court to waive the DPP's two other suggestions as he pleaded for the bail to ensure the accused's attendance in court.

The judge then ordered RM5,000 bail on the accused as well as to have his passport surrendered to court. She also fixed Aug 14 for mention.
