Enforcement officer among three detained over RM12,000 bribery

KOTA KINABALU: Three men, including an enforcement officer, were arrested for bribery involving RM12,000 in relation to the smuggling of migrants.

The 35-year-old enforcement officer, who was on duty in Tawau, is believed to have colluded with two men, who acted as middlemen, to allow foreign nationals with no valid travel documentation to fly.

An undocumented Indonesian is believed to have left Tawau for Kuala Lumpur without going through inspection at the Tawau Airport.

The three were detained at 6pm yesterday when they came to the Sabah MACC office to give their statement.

Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrest.

"All suspects will be detained for 24 hours for further investigation," he said, adding that the arrests were made in collaboration with the police.
