Police arrest five men following drug, ketum raid in Kelantan

KOTA BARU: Police have arrested five men in two separate raids in Tumpat and Pasir Mas yesterday.

Cannabis, ketum juice and methamphetamine pills, worth about RM37,300 were also seized in the operations.

Kelantan Police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said in the first operation in Pasir Mas, police detained three men.

"A police party was conducting their normal rounds when they saw three men acting suspiciously at about 4.30pm.

"The three men were sitting on two bikes in front of Pasir Mas hospital. After checks, police found 5,000 gm of cannabis and 150 litres of ketum juice, all worth about RM15,000," he said in a statement.

Zaki said the three suspects, aged between 21 and 23, all tested positive for drugs.

"One of them had a previous crime record," he said.

In the second raid, Zaki said police detained two men at a house in Kubang Batang near Wakaf Bharu, Tumpat about 6.30pm.

"Police seized 2,200 methamphetamine pills, 3.27gm of cannabis and 30 litres of ketum juice from the two, in their 50s.

"The drugs and the juice were worth about RM22,300. One of the suspects had a previous crime record," he said.

He added the five have been remanded for seven days to assist police investigation into the cases.

Zaki said the arrests of the five were made in a follow-up operation after police detained four men in Ketereh recently.

On Tuesday, police arrested four men and seized Yaba pills and ketum from two different locations, including a tahfiz school at Batu 11, Ketereh suspected of storing 100kg of ketum.

In the first raid, police seized 20 plastic packets filled with about 20 litres of ketum liquid, four plastic packets containing green leaves believed to be ketum and weighing an estimated 40kg.

The tahfiz madrasah was the second location police have raided on the same day, which resulted in the discovery of 10 black plastic packets believed to contain ketum leaves.
