Brother charged with killing sister is fit to stand trial, court told

KOTA KINABALU: A former Sabah rugby player who allegedly murdered his younger sister at their home a few months ago has no mental illness, the court heard today.

Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali was also told that based on the Hospital Mesra, Bukit Padang observation, Arden Mattson Maturin, 26, was fit to stand trial.

Deputy public prosecutor Jessica Ombou Kakayun read out the psychiatric report when the case was mentioned today.

She then sought another mention date pending chemist, pathology, and post-mortem reports.

The court then fixed Sept 27, for further mention.

On May 23, this year, the court granted an application by Arden's counsels for him to be referred to Hospital Mesra for an assessment of his mental condition.

Arden was accused of murdering Audrey Maturin, 24, at their house in Taman Prestij off Jalan Signal Hill.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the death penalty upon conviction.

Counsel Jul Hamri and Faustina Tulus represented the accused.

Meanwhile, in another court, a cook who allegedly strangled his wife to death was charged with murder today.

No plea was taken from Arip Muktar, 25, who appeared before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles.

Undocumented Arip was accused of murdering his wife, also undocumented, on April 18, between 5am and 8.30am at a worker's quarters in Jalan Pantai, near here.

The court fixed Sept 21, for mention and the accused will be further detained pending the disposal of the case.

It was reported that the man tried to kill himself by slashing his throat after allegedly strangling his wife to death, following a heated argument.

A neighbour, who had heard the couple's loud quarrel earlier, found the woman's body and her husband lying on the floor at the said quarters.
