MACC detains three more enforcement officers for RM12,000 bribe

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested three more enforcement officers for accepting RM12,000 in bribes to release a Bangladesh woman involved in a fake passport syndicate.

Sources said the trio were detained in a follow up operation after the arrest of another officer in his 40s. The officer had been detained on Tuesday for allegedly accepting a RM3,000 bribe in exchange for releasing goods that belonged to a foreigner.

The trio who are in their 20s and 30s, were detained yesterday between 9pm to 10pm after a Bangladeshi citizen lodged a report to MACC that the four of them had took away a total of RM12,000.

Sources said MACC found RM10,000 in cash which was distributed between the four. It also seized fake passports which were found at one of the officer's room.

Kuala Lumpur MACC director Mohamad Fauzi Husin confirmed the arrest and said the suspect is investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act.

The four have been remanded until Aug 28 after they were produced in front of magistrate Aina Azahra Tun Arifin.
