Unemployed man held over murder of father in Petaling Jaya

PETALING JAYA: An elderly man, in his 70s, is believed to have been killed by his son last Saturday.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the murder is believed to have occurred at around 12.30am at the victim's home.

He said the Sungai Way police received information at 2.15am the same day after the body was discovered by a relative on the roadside at PJS 10/24 here.

The body was found wrapped in a curtain with injuries to the head and a broken left hand as well as bruises on the chest.

"Based on information received, the Petaling Jaya police detained a man in his 40s at a housing area in PJS 10/9A, Bandar Sunway here.

"The suspect, who has been jobless for two years, is believed to have been enraged by the victim's insults and constant pressure to find work.

"The victim is said to have kept pressuring the suspect for being lazy and constantly consuming alcohol," he said during a press conference at the district police headquarters today.

Fakhrudin said the police confiscated a shovel as a murder weapon and a vehicle believed to have been used by the suspect to move the body.

Police also found that the suspect has previous criminal records for breach of trust, possession of corrosive and explosive substances and for carrying offensive weapons.

The suspect has been remanded for seven days until Sept 2.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
