SUNGAI SIPUT: "I was informed that a suspect has been arrested and that's good, but I don't want to know or see his face," said the father of the Orang Asli girl, Nuraina Humaira Rosli, who is suspected to have been raped before being murdered.
Rosli Mahadi, 48, said that he and his wife, Khatijah Angah, 31, are still in shock and grieving as they did not expect that the disappearance of their 10-year-old eldest daughter last Friday would end with the discovery of her body in a swampy area in the Orang Asli village of Kampung Bersah, Pos Kuala Mu here, on Saturday.
According to Rosli, the family is currently in the process of consoling themselves and trying to accept this very sad tragedy.
"My wife is trying her best to control her emotions and our youngest child isn't crying, but he realises that his sister is not at home and is searching for her," he said sorrowfully.
He was met during a visit by representatives of the Department of Orang Asli Development at his home in Kampung Bersah, Pos Kuala Mu here today.
The Orang Asli Development officer for the Kuala Kangsar district, Muhamad Hazwan Sabri, also handed over a food basket and cash donations to the family.
According to Rosli, the process of bathing, shrouding and performing funeral prayers for the body was done at the Forensic Unit of Sungai Siput Hospital at midnight last night, before Nuraina Humaira's body was taken to the Islamic Cemetery in Kampung Bersah by van.
"The journey to the village took almost two hours. 'Alhamdulillah', my daughter was buried at 3am today with the help of the villagers and the Perak Islamic Religious Department," he said.
Rosli also declined to comment further on the tragic incident involving his daughter and has left the investigation entirely to the authorities.
Earlier, the media reported that the 17-year-old suspect, who is also a close relative of the victim, was brought to the Sungai Siput magistrate's court this morning and was remanded for seven days until Aug 25 to assist in the investigation.
Sungai Siput police chief, Superintendent Mohd Khaizam Ahmad Shahabudin, was reported to have said that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
He said the post-mortem results revealed signs of tearing in the victim's genital area and injuries caused by pressure on the victim's neck.
