Bangladeshi man charged with murdering friend

KUALA KANGSAR: A Bangladeshi national was charged at the magistrate's court here today for the murder of his friend and fellow countryman, two weeks ago.

Mohammad Mokul Hossain, 34, was charged with the murder of Hossen Md Monowar at Lot 641-B Jalan Kuak, Lenggong between 7pm and 8pm on Sept 8.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment for a term not less than 30 years but not exceeding 40 years, and if not sentenced to death, shall also be liable to a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.

No plea was recorded from Mohammad Mokul Hossain who works as a farmer as he could not understand Bahasa Melayu.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Sufi Aiman Azmi prosecuted while the accused was not represented.

Magistrate, Mohd Shazmeer Zamhari set Oct 20 for mention to appoint a court interpreter at the Lenggong Magistrate's Court.

Last week, the media reported on the discovery of the body of a man believed to have been killed and burnt at a banana plantation in Kampung Pengkalan Ikan in Kuak, Lenggong on Sept 8.

Gerik district police chief Superintendent Zulkifili Mahmood said that based on the post-mortem result conducted at the Forensic Department of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB), the cause of death was a head injury due to blunt trauma.

Following this, police arrested the Bangladeshi man, believed to be his friend, in Kampung Jamuan, Kuala Kangsar.
