MANJUNG: Police have confirmed that the Molotov cocktail which razed the vehicles and home of Beruas member of parliament Ngeh Koo Ham in an arson attack on Jan 10, contained petrol.
Perak police chief, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, said this was verified by the state fire and rescue department's investigation department on Jan 18.
"An official report will be submitted to the police soon," he said in a statement today.
In the 2.55am incident, a Mercedes Benz E300 belonging to Ngeh was completely destroyed while two other vehicles - a Honda CR-V and Toyota Hilux - as well as the ceiling of his porch, were damaged in the fire.
Police found a Molotov cocktail at the scene, which was identified as the inciendary device used in the arson attack.
Ngeh, who was former Perak state legislative assembly speaker, and his wife were asleep at the top floor of the house when the attack took place.
They managed to run out of the house after their neighbour repeatedly rang their doorbell to alert them.
Two days later, police detained a man in his 30s in Shah Alam, Selangor to assist the investigation. He was released on police bail on Jan 17.
Manjung district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Nordin Abdullah, had said that the man would be used as a witness if necessary as part of the probe.
Mohd Yusri, meanwhile, said they have recorded statements from 11 people so far.
"Investigations are still ongoing to trace the suspect.
"Those with information on the case can contact the investigating officer, Assistant Superintendent Mohd Azalan Ab Karim at 019-392 7837 to assist the probe."
