COO of GLC detained by MACC for abusing position

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a chief operating officer of a government-linked company (GLC) for allegedly abusing her position in the company.

It is believed that the COO had used her position to appoint a company where her husband had an interest to carry out transportation works on behalf of the company worth more than RM300,000.

According to the source, the suspect who is in her forties was arrested today at about 2pm when she had her statement recorded at the MACC Selangor office.

"Based on the investigation conducted, the suspect committed the offence in 2022, when her husband's company was appointed as a subcontractor for transportation.

"(And) all subcontract payments totalling around RM280,000 were allegedly transferred into the suspect's personal account."

Meanwhile, Selangor MACC director Datuk Alias Salim when contacted confirmed the arrest and said that the case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.

He added that MACC will also apply for a remand at the Shah Alam Magistrate's Court tomorrow (Jan 10) at 8.30 am.
