DAP's Pua arrives at Bukit Aman to give statement over his Facebook postings

KUALA LUMPUR: Former DAP national publicity secretary Tony Pua has arrived at Bukit Aman here to provide his statement after he was called in by police following his Facebook postings.

Arriving at 12.51pm, Pua was met with around 30 media personnel, who had been waiting for his arrival since 12pm.

Present to show him support were DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, as well as other of the party's members, such as Klang member of parliament, V. Ganabatirau, Subang Jaya state assemblyman Michelle Ng Mei Sze, and Kampung Tunku state assemblyman Lim Yi Wei.

Pua was accompanied by lawyer Haijan Omar and entered the complex at 1:13pm.

Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed that Pua would be summoned for questioning over his remarks on the Pardons Board's decision to reduce Datuk Seri Najib Razak's prison sentence and fine.

Razarudin said investigations had been initiated into Pua's Facebook statements.

"The statements were made to incite the public to hate and insult the royal institution concerning the absolute power of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in exercising his authority under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution.

"The investigation is conducted by the Classified Crime Investigation Unit, Prosecution/Law (D5) Division, Criminal Investigation Department (CID)," he said.

He added that the case was being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Pua recently took to Facebook to critisise the board's decision on Najib. It was chaired by the previous former king, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. ()

Pua posted cryptic messages on his Facebook account, including one that read, "I beg your pardon?".

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Lokman Adam had then called on the Home Ministry and police to take action against Pua under the Sedition Act for allegedly disrespecting the board's decision.

Lokman said Pua's statements insulted the former king and disrespected his decision.

Last Friday, the Board had reduced Najib's prison sentence from 12 to six years and the fine from RM210 million to RM50 million.

The former prime minister was initially sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined RM210 million after being found guilty of abuse of power, breach of trust and money laundering involving RM42 million from SRC International, a former subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
